Biography
Severo Víctor Damián
Martínez was born on November 10th 1985 in Santa Fe, New
Mexico. He is
the son of Ralph and Julie Ann Martinez of Chimayo, New Mexico. He is the baby of the family with one older
brother, Javier Martinez. Since the age
of three years old, Severo has always been a singer. As a toddler, he would often sing to family
friends and just ask for a dollar for his efforts. His favorite song to sing as a child was,
“There’s a Tear in My Beer.”
While growing up in Chimayo, Severo attended Chimayo Elementary School, where his love for
music grew. He recalls in Mrs. Alicia
Vela’s second grade classroom that he used to listen to her old records every
chance he got. If this involved missing
recess, his best friend Kristy and him would rather stay inside and jam out to
“Angel Baby.” After completion of
elementary school, Severo went on to McCurdy, a private Christian school
located in the Beautiful
Espanola Valley. It is here where he was encouraged by his
chorus teacher, Mrs. Peggy Jo Graggert to continue to
sing and to live out his dream. Severo
would sing at all school functions including fundraisers, basketball games and
with school clubs. Severo had many great
mentors at McCurdy
High School which
included, Mrs. Patricia Alvarado, high
school principal, Mrs. Pamela Womack, School Superintendent, Mrs. Dee Dee Heffner, his AP English and Drama Teacher, and Rev. Jim
Brunner, Religion and Performing Arts Coordinator. Severo would like to thank them all for believing
in him and for helping and encouraging him through-out high school.
Severo Graduated from McCurdy
High School in 2004 and is now
attending The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He is studying Elementary Education, Spanish
and Communications. He is currently
employed by The Albuquerque School District and Campfire USA as a Site- Manager
at an After- School Care Program. His
ultimate goal is to work with children and to be that one teacher or principal
that all students remember as the person that helped shape their life in a
positive way.
In the summer of 2005, is when Severo began to record his
first CD with Steve Chavez of Randall Records.
Severo is the 2006-2007 Up Coming Artist of the Year Award
Winner by the New Mexico Hispano Entertainers Association.
